12 Angry Men, or Jurors, or Women, or Lebanese

Earlier today the wife and I drove through a small North Carolina town–it might have been Bryson City.  The downtown theater advertised a stage production of 12 Angry Jurors.  Here we go again, I thought, as American society comes ever closer to the saturation point with politically correct, gender-neutral language.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought.  Thanks to the indispensable Mr. Wikipedia, who knows more than I do, we learn that some productions of the play have jurors of both sexes, or sometimes all women jurors:  “In other theatrical adaptations in which female actors are cast the play is sometimes retitled 12 Angry Jurors or 12 Angry Women.”

There’s even a version called Twelve Angry Lebanese, and I am not making this up.

Some suggestions for future editions: 12 Angry Mothers, 12 Angry Christians, 12 Angry Idiots.
